What Our Team Says (Employee Reviews)
"Yard control is where I found my niche at UPS. You are not on the belt — you are managing the entire trailer ecosystem of the building from the yard. Driving a yard truck to spot trailers, communicating door assignments to the sort sup, and keeping the yard board accurate is genuinely complex and engaging work. The pay is strong, the equipment training is fully funded, and there is nothing quite like this UPS warehouse job in the local market." - Current Yard Control Associate, Kansas City, MO.
Role Overview & Responsibilities
As a UPS Yard Control Warehouse Associate, you manage the inbound and outbound trailer flow in the truck yard of our package center, operating yard trucks to spot trailers at dock doors and maintaining real-time accuracy in the yard management system throughout your shift.
- Yard Truck (Spotter) Operation: Operate a UPS yard truck — a specialized terminal tractor — to move loaded and empty trailers between the yard staging field and assigned dock doors, responding to dock door assignments from the sort supervisor in real time.
- Yard Board Management: Maintain complete and accurate trailer location data in UPS's yard management system, updating every trailer move immediately so that sort supervisors, linehaul drivers, and operations managers have real-time trailer visibility at all times.
- Seal Log Compliance: Record inbound trailer seal numbers and outbound seal applications in the facility's seal log before any trailer departs the yard, maintaining the chain-of-custody documentation required by UPS security and DOT compliance standards.
Benefits & Perks
UPS Yard Control Associates earn an equipment operation premium on top of the Teamsters base hourly wage. All yard truck and terminal tractor operation certifications are fully funded by UPS on-site.
